Tutor Sessions (Odd Weeks)

Hello Everyone,

Every two weeks you are required to meet you tutor and be ready to sign you assignment. These assignments  require that you record yourself and post your link here. When you arrive to the tutor, you are to do your assignment again but this time live. The tutor will then provide you with constructive feedback that you can use when you watch your video again after they have critiqued your signing during the tutor session.  Watching these over again after your sessions, are crucial for your language development. Seeing your error and understanding why they are errors will help you no longer make them. This awareness is necessary to develop fluency in ASL.   When you physically see the errors you are making, you will be able to  work on correcting them and no longer making the same mistakes. It will also allow you to see what you are doing well.

When you are watching your videos after your session with your tutor,  it is important that you pay special attention to the following:

• Parameters





• Facial Grammar





• Facial Expressions





• Signing pace and flow





• Natural execution





• Structure (too much English order, leaving out necessary signs to be readily understood, mouthing)





• Location and space

Bi-weekly Assignments (this assignment may change as semester progresses).








Directions:

• Each week we will have a chapter from our required textbook, "For Hearing People Only". on Fridays. You must create a summary of this chapter. You will record your summary. This summary should be be no shorter than 5 minutes in length.

Objectives and Outcomes:

• Students will practice new signs and concepts they have just learned





• Students will practice both receptive and expressive language usage





• Students will work on signing techinques





• Students will build new vocabulary





• Students will become more comfortable with expressive skills





• Students will think conceptually





• Students will not only learn sign, they will be taught in sign
• Students will work to create ASL structure and grammar

Tutor Session #1 (week #3, September 17-21)
Summarize and sign Chapter 11 from, " For Hearing People Only". Post link in comments. This assignment must be completed before attending tutoring.

Tutor Session #2 (week #5, Oct. 1-5)
Summarize and sign Chapter 13  from, " For Hearing People Only". Post link in comments. This assignment must be completed before attending tutoring.


Tutor Session #3 (week #7, Oct. 15-19)
Summarize and sign Chapter 57  from, " For Hearing People Only". Post link in comments. This assignment must be completed before attending tutoring. Create 15 questions from this lecture and provide answers.  Include grammar concepts that we have learned and explored further into these last 6 weeks. Write these out.  This will help you organize your ideas, thoughts, reflections, and opinions. Additionally, create 5 statements using topic/comment structure.



Tutor Session #4 (week #9, Oct. 29-Nov. 2)
Present your How-to to the tutor.  Ask any questions that you may have.

Tutor Session #5 (Week #11, November 12-16)
Summarize and sign Chapter 26  from, " For Hearing People Only". Post link in comments. This assignment must be completed before attending tutoring. Create 10 questions from this lecture and provide answers.  Include grammar concepts that we have learned and explored further into these last 10 weeks. Write these out.  This will help you organize your ideas, thoughts, reflections, and opinions. Additionally, create 5 statements using topic/comment structure.

tutor session #6 (Week 13 &14, November 27-30, Dec 3-7)
You may attend tutoring during week 13 or 14
Have your examples recorded
Work with the tutor to sign fairy tales.
Have examples prepared for the required grammar components
